Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Starting 3 August 2026, two-factor authentication is required to log in to Tableo. This short guide explains what that means and how to set it up.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA for short) is a simple extra step when you log in. After you type your password, Tableo asks for a short code that only you can get — usually a 6-digit number.

Think of it like a bank card: the card alone isn't enough, you also need the PIN. Your password is the card, and the 2FA code is the PIN.

Why does it matter?

Your Tableo account holds bookings, customer details, and your restaurant's information. If someone got hold of your password, that second code stops them from getting in. Even if your password is stolen or guessed, your account stays safe because the intruder won't have the code.

What are the ways to get my code?

Tableo gives you three methods. You only need one to log in, but it's smart to set up more than one as a backup.

  1. Authenticator app (recommended) — a free app on your phone that generates a fresh code every 30 seconds. Works even without internet or phone signal.

  2. Email — Tableo emails you a code each time you sign in.

  3. Recovery codes — a list of one-time backup codes to use if you ever lose access to the app and your email.

How do I set up the authenticator app? (recommended)

We suggest Google Authenticator, a free and widely used app.

Step 1 — Install the app on your phone

  • iPhone: open the App Store, search for Google Authenticator, and tap Get.

  • Android: open the Google Play Store, search for Google Authenticator, and tap Install.

Step 2 — Connect it to Tableo

  1. In Tableo, go to My Profile -  Under your name in the top right corner of Tableo screen.

  2. In the Two-factor authentication section click “Enable” next to Authenticator app option.

  3. QR code (a square barcode) will appear on your screen.

  4. Open Google Authenticator on your phone, tap the + button, choose Scan a QR code, and point your camera at the QR code.

  5. Your Tableo account now appears in the app with a 6-digit code that refreshes regularly.

  6. Type that 6-digit code into Tableo to confirm. Done!

How to use it when logging in

Each time you log in, after your password, open Google Authenticator, read the current 6-digit code for Tableo, and type it in. The code changes every 30 seconds, so use the one showing at that moment.

How does the email method work?

If you prefer email, choose Send code on the login screen. Tableo will email you a code — just open your inbox, copy it, and enter it. Make sure you have access to the email address on your account.

What are recovery codes?

Recovery codes are your safety net — a list of backup codes you can use to log in if you ever can't access your authenticator app or your email (for example, a lost or broken phone).

A few important things to know:

  • Each code works only once. After you use one, it's gone.

  • When you're running low on unused codes, you'll need to generate a new set from the Recovery codes section (View recovery codes). Generating a new set replaces the old one.

  • Keep them somewhere safe and private — save them in a password manager, or write them down and store them somewhere secure (not stuck to your monitor!). Anyone who has these codes could log in as you.

What is "Remember this device for 30 days"?

When you log in, you can choose to trust the device you're using. That device then skips the 2FA code for 30 days, so you won't be asked for a code every single time on your own computer or phone.

Only do this on devices that are yours and private. Avoid it on shared or public computers.

In your settings, the Trusted devices section lists every device you've chosen to remember. If you no longer use one — or don't recognise it — select Revoke to remove it. That device will need a 2FA code again next time.

Does Tableo know my codes or password?

No. Tableo never has access to your password, your authenticator codes, or your recovery codes. They stay private to you. This is what keeps your account secure — but it also means we can't simply read them back to you if you're locked out, which is why setting up a backup method matters.

What if none of these work and I'm locked out?

If you've genuinely lost access to all your methods — no app, no email, no recovery codes — email us at cs@tableo.com and we'll help you regain access.

Because we take account security seriously, we may ask you to prove your identity or that you own/work at the restaurant before restoring access. This protects your account from anyone pretending to be you.

Quick tips

  • Set up at least two methods so you always have a backup.

  • Save your recovery codes somewhere safe the moment you generate them.

  • Only use "Remember this device" on your own private phone or computer.

  • If you lose or replace your phone, set up the authenticator app again and revoke the old trusted device.
